LinuxWorld 2007 Show Wrap-Up
As another LinuxWorld show fades into the sunset, we at Revelation Software got another chance to visit with our peers in the Linux user environment. Taking place from August 6th through the 9th, 2007 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, the show had an attendance of approximately 12,000.
This year we were joined in the booth by Bill Winter of IBM’s U2 group. Bill was in the booth with us answering questions from both the Revelation staff and show attendees. One change to the show this year was that the LinuxWorld show combined with the Next Generation Data Center show, and so there was an interesting mix of attendees at the show. In general though, there were more ‘business’ attendees than hobbyists.

Our general observations: it seems that the push to have Linux on the Desktop has slowed, and the push for Linux on servers continues to be strong, but the strongest push in the Linux application development world seems to be on mobile devices such as phones and PDAs. In many cases, these applications need to communicate with some back-end database, and that is where OpenInsight comes into play. In general, it felt as if the desktop applications will remain to be windows-based, with Linux running the servers and mobile devices.
As happened last year, we were approached by a number of other development and platform companies regarding strategic partnerships. We will continue to pursue these developments; watch the website for updates.
