Universal Driver NUL 5.0

In conjunction with the release of OpenInsight 10.0, Revelation Software will also release the Universal Driver 5.0.  The UD 5.0 will only be compatible with OpenInsight 9.4 and above, and the service can coexist with earlier versions of the Universal Driver on the same server.   The UD 5.0 will be included at no additional cost with the purchase of OI 10 licensing.

OpenInsight 9.4 users who have the Universal Driver 4.7 or Universal Driver 4.7 NUL may upgrade to the Universal Driver 5.0 for $995.00.

Features and Benefits

Latest Communication Technology - The Universal Driver 5.0 utilizes the latest communication libraries to provide robust, reliable service between the UD server and its clients.

64-bit - The Universal Driver 5.0 may only be installed on 64-bit versions of Windows Operating Systems (e.g. Server 2008 or Server 2012).

Secure communications option - If desired, the communications channel between the UD server and its clients can be SSL encrypted, preventing unauthorized interception of sensitive information.

Authenticated clients option - If desired, only explicitly authorized client software can connect to the UD server over a secure SSL channel.

Connection Retry - If the communication link between the client and server is temporarily lost, and then restored, the client will attempt to reconnect and resume normal operations.

VSS friendly - The UD 5.0 is VSS (Volume Snapshot Service) aware and can thus be backed up with minimal disruption to normal operations.

Controllable Resizing - The UD 5.0 (through the OpenInsight UD console) can have its "resizing thread" programmatically disabled and re-enabled.  This allows high-volume installations to disable resizing during peak processing times, improving performance.

Customizable Write Flags - An optional registry setting can now be specified to control the flags that Windows uses when opening LK/OV files, allowing sites to customize the behavior for their individual needs.

Linux (planned) or Windows Implementation - The UD 5.0 can be installed on either Windows or Linux servers.

Universal Driver 4.5 to 4.7 FAQ

Revelation Universal Driver 4.7 - The UD 4.7.2 is a minor upgrade from UD 4.7.  It resolves a significant issue with corrupted table header counts and sizes, a potential memory leak/overrun issue when running in 'debug output' or logging mode, and eliminates "hanging" when shutting down the service.  This should allow sites to terminate and restart the UD without requiring a server reboot.

Universal Driver NUL 5.0 for OI94_Setup Files (v5.0.0.5) - Version 5.0.0.5 for OI 9.4 contains bug fixes, an improved UD manager, and a client installer which exposes more UD5 features.  A bug which caused a client to hang upon repeated toggling of the resize service is fixed. Version 5.0.0.5 supports passing REVPARAM information via a volume pointer or call to ATTACH_TABLE.  Some core system routines including RTP57, RTP49, FIX_LH and RTI_LH_INFO are updated. The UD client installer replaces the REVBOOT file and installs the UD_MANAGER and supporting components into your OpenInsight. With these changes, the UD manager displays lock and session details in a format of MACHINE*USER*PROCESSID.  This format lets you determine lock holders in a terminal server or O4W environment.  The UD manager window ( MANAGE_REVLH_SERVER ) provides access to sub windows displaying statistics, statistics history, size lock and remake table information.

Universal Driver NUL 5.0 for OI94_Setup Files (v5.0.0.4) - Version 5.0.0.4 resolves a long-standing issue with corrupted table header counts and sizes, and includes new options to disable or re-enable automatic resizing of tables.  It also resolves a potential memory leak/overrun issue when running in 'debug output' or logging mode, and eliminates "hanging" when shutting down the service.  This should allow sites to terminate and restart the UD without requiring a server reboot.
